Highlights of Summer Punting

Punting in Cambridge

Punting is one of the most popular activities both for tourists visiting Cambridge and locals looking for a fun day out. Whether you opt to take on the challenge of hiring a punt to punt yourself (self-hire) or book a relaxing chauffeured punting tour along the River Cam, it is guaranteed that you will experience some of the best sights Cambridge has to offer.

Punting Seasons

Whilst we offer chauffeured punting tours all year round, it is a seasonal business peaking in the summer and school holidays with weekends being particularly busy. Weekdays outside the school holidays in June and July can still be quite quiet and are a great time to punt with the river being quieter and (hopefully) the weather being on your side.

Summer Highlights

Summer is the most popular time of the year to go punting. With long days and sunny evenings we can be open for up to 12 hours a day. As the river can get very busy we recommend punting early or late. We offer an Early Bird/Night Owl private tour – this is a special discounted rate valid for the first and last tours of the day (when we are at our quietest). You get the best price for the quietest river. Win-win.

We’ve done Music in the River, offer picnics for lazy afternoons on the green and are popular with Hen Parties all summer long. The summer days are long with punts up and down the river, self hire punters loosing their balance and falling in and our chauffeurs entertaining their groups during the tours.

Its not only the punts enjoying the river in the summer months, the lower river is busy with the Cambridge University teams rowing, there are canoeists, kayakers and paddle boarders aplenty. The annual cardboard race is a fantastic spectacle and 2019 was the first Cambridge pride parade on the River.

This year’s Summer Punting

Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic leaves us uncertain of how summer 2020 will look on the river. We are hoping to open on July 4th 2020 with extra safety measures and increased cleaning procedures. Whilst we are hoping things will go back to normal sooner rather than later we are planning and preparing so we can open and safely offer punting tours.
We won’t be able to meet for a while longer. But better days will come soon! Stay positive. Stay safe.If you would like more information about punting after the pandemic you can check our COVID-19 FAQ’s.
