Being a Family Run business it's important to us that our Cambridge Punting tours are family friendly.

We offer our best rates for both private and shared tours before 11 am when the river is at its quietest. In addition, we have family ticket options making our shared tours more affordable for those with children.

Family Friendly Punting in Cambridge

There are 2 options for your Cambridge punting tour with us; A private tour or a shared tour.

For private tours, we would recommend booking before 11am when we offer the best value tickets and when the river is at its quietest (and coolest on a hot day).

For shared tours, we have a couple of family friendly ticket options:

  • Group of up to 4 people including 1 under 5 (on a lap).
  • Group ticket for up to 6 people – with a maximum of 3 adults (over 18’s) in the group.
  • Group ticket of up to 7 people inlcuding 1 under 5 (on a lap).

These tickets represent great value for money, again with us offering the best rates for our morning tours departing before 11am.

Our tours last for approxiamtely 50 minutes and are return trips along the backs. During the tour there is plenty to see to keep children of all ages entertained and engaged. Some of the sights you will see during your tour include the Bridge of Sighs, Kings College Chapel and The Wren Library. In addition, the river is a great place to spot wildlife including ducks, swans and herons. The ducks are often a highlight when children come punting with us! Don’t forget the duck food.

Chauffeured Punting with the Kids

At Let’s Go Punting, being parents with small children ourselves we love welcoming families and children on board.

We have life jackets available for children should you wish to request one (in advance with our office team) but they are not required as chauffeured punting is an extremely safe activity.  We use large wide beam punts with a seating capacity of 12 passengers. These boats are very stable and will not tip over, therefore as long as your children remain seated with their hands and feet inside the punt they will be completely safe.

Children under 1 are classified as babes in arms and whilst not being included in the head count they are very welcome. Prams & Buggys can be left at our check-in (at your own risk).

You are very welcome to bring your own food & drinks on board and prams & strollers can be left at our meeting point.

Well…overall, the punting experience was nice. However, we find the Hong Kong law student who is the team lead for 20th Nov didn’t provide sufficient information for us. He just tried to hard sell the ticket. We arrived Cambridge at 11.10am, he suggested us to go for 11.45am slots without telling us that the walk to the punting area is so far away. We repeatedly asking him how far is the distance? He said just find them in google map and try to give good review. We asked again how far is the place, then he said it is just five minutes away from king’s College, which is super misleading. End up as we started to walk, we realize it was 35mins walk! We ran there like crazy in order to catch the session. It was horrible! He was supposed to advise us properly or book us to a later slot to give us ample time to go there! It was supposed to be a relaxing trip at Cambridge, end up we were so rush, tired and stress. The staff at the jetty were also quite unfriendly, stood there without bothering us…should at least tell us it is the correct place, where should we go wait etc…not very pleasant….

We were a group of 4 friends and wanted to enjoy River Cam and its views. Our punter Ryan was very informative and also funny, really enjoyed the ride. We got to see historic places and learnt a lot about Cambridge in general. I would absolutely recommend anyone who visits Cambridge to go for punting.

Know Before You Go

Tours are booked for a specific time. Late arrival will result in a missed or shortened tour.

You will receive a text message 5 minutes before your departure time – to aid social distancing please do not come to our check in until you have received this message.

You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks on board.

Tours booked online are paid for in full at the time of booking. If you would prefer to pay a 30% deposit with the balance due 2 weeks before the booking date please CONTACT US.

Once confirmed, bookings can be amended subject to availability. Tours go ahead in poor weather. More information including cancellation policy can be found here: Terms & Conditions.

Safety Measures

Punting is an extremely safe activity to do with children as the boats are very sturdy but there are a few things to bear in mind as it is a water-based activity.

  • Ensure children remain seated at all times, with very small children it is advisable to seat them between 2 adults.
  • Ensure children keep their hands and feet inside the boat at all times and beware of other boats coming up alongside.
  • Ensure you all wash your hands after your punting tour and before eating or drinking anything.
