October Half Term

October half term, also known as Halloween/Spooky season. Here's a list of things to do this October half term that are spooktacular!

October Half Term Halloween Activities

October half term, also known as Halloween/Spooky season. The kids are home for a week, full of life and energy (potentially driving you crazy) and are running around the house making a lot of noise. So I’m going to take a guess that you are looking for things to keep them occupied? If so then no need to look any further as I have put together a list of things to do this October half term that are spooktacular!

Pumpkin Picking

Pumpkin picking is something that all the family can do, and is fun for all ages! All you have to do is wander around the fields, hunting for the best pumpkin for you to carve your designs into later.

One of my favourite things about Halloween has to be pumpkin carving. Carving out the pumpkin’s insides, which we can all agree is gross,  and then carving the perfect design into the face of the pumpkin to create a spooky lantern.

But there can be no pumpkin carving without a perfectly shaped, orange, canvas. So head on down to the Pumpkin Farm on Milton Road. Their opening hours are 10 am – 4 pm on the 16th & 17th of October and are 10 am – 4 pm on the 23rd-31st of October.

You need to book tickets in advance so head on over to their website, and book a ticket now!

Top of The Tots

If your kids are into dancing and music then this Top of the Tots event may be just right for them, and you! At 1 pm in Revolution Cambridge on the 31st of October 2021, you have the opportunity to take the kids clubbing…

There will be:

  • Face painting
  • Soft play
  • Glow sticks
  • Ball pit
  • Confetti cannons
  • Bubble machine
  • Soft play
  • Live DJ
  • Halloween decor

And most importantly: Trick or Treat!

If any of this sounds like it would suit your kids then head on over to this website and book your ticket now for a day of spooky fun!

Autumn Adventure

If you and your family are more of the outdoor types then the Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve Autumn Adventure may be the perfect day out for you all. The adventure consists of games, stories, and crafts most suited for children aged 3 to 10.

On the 27th and 29th of October, they run 2 sessions a day. They run from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm and they advise that you all dress in warm clothes and wellies, so you’re ready for an adventure!

You can just turn up on the day but to secure a place they advise you to call 01353 720274 and book a ticket in advance.

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House

This haunted house is not for the faint hearted. From the 23rd to the 30th of October you can head on over to Hinchingbrooke and be scared silly.

The evening consists of walking through dark rooms, maze’s and the forest filled with killer clowns, maniacs, and demons. With approximately 90 actors lurking throughout the theatrical setting you will never know where the next scare is waiting for you!

This event is normally a sell out so booking tickets in advance is definitely a good idea.

Also, the event is pretty scary so this may only be suitable for your older children. Their website advises children to be 12+ but it may be a good idea for your kids to be older. It completely depends on what you know your child is comfortable with, as being scared can be fun but being terrified, well that’s not so fun.

If at any time you or your children are overwhelmed or would like to leave just speak to a member of staff posted around the set, or even any of the actors because despite their appearance they are there to help!

Halloween Scavenger Hunt & Activity Booklet

This half-term (23rd – 31st October) our Halloween Scavenger Hunt & Activity booklets are available when booking a private or shared Cambridge Punting Tour.

Set off on a 50-minute long chauffeured punting tour along the college backs and explore the ‘On the River’ activities on your activity booklet, for some fun world-search, dot to dot and spot the difference with a spooky twist. Test your chauffeur’s knowledge to help answer the questions and crack the code.

Then, once your punting tour is over, set off on an adventure around the city. Stride the haunted streets of Cambridge all the way to your final destination – Hardy’s Sweet Shop – for the real treat of this Halloween.

Dress up, bring the kids down and enjoy a spooktastic, fun-filled 50-minute punt tour!
