Top 5 Things You Should Do When Punting

Do you want to tick off Punting in Cambridge from your bucket list? But you are not sure how to make the most of it? We’ve got you covered!

Here are our top 5 recommendations of things you should do when Punting in the lovely city of Cambridge.

Dress Appropriately

Punting occurs all year round and we go in nearly all weather conditions, so come prepared. If you’re booked to go punting in winter then make sure to dress up warm, as whilst we do provide blankets it’s better to be too hot than too cold.

Also, don’t forget to wear appropriate shoes! Getting onto the boat can sometimes seem a bit daunting, and whilst our staff will help you onboard, sensible shoes will make the whole process easier.

Listen To Our Staff

Please listen to the instructions given to you by our staff members! Our aim is to provide you with the best punting experience possible, and to get you on and off the boat safely. So make sure to listen to the cashier or chauffeur as they have your best interests at heart, as we don’t want anyone going for an unplanned swim!

Bring Food and Drink Onboard

Our boat tours are 50 minutes long, and you might get a bit peckish, so feel free to bring any food and drink onboard with you. We do offer a picnic punting option, and you can choose between our Brunch Box, Afternoon Tea Picnic, or a Deli Style Grazing Board. But if you don’t like any of these options you are more than welcome to bring your own picnic along with you!

Also, in summer, there is a floating river bar that will come alongside you and deliver your drinks!

Ask your Chauffeur Questions

As you are punted up and down the river your chauffeur will be giving you the history of the nine bridges and seven colleges that you pass but please ask as many questions as you like. Whether you have a factual question that you would like clarifying, or you’ve overheard a funny anecdote and you want to know if it has any merit, then chat to your chauffeur.

All our chauffeurs are trained to the highest standard and many of them have been on the river for several seasons, so there’s not a lot that they don’t know.

Bring your Dogs Punting!

You should definitely bring your dogs on board! We love seeing your different pooches on the river, and you are guaranteed to bring a smile to our staff’s faces. Dogs are more than welcome on board our punts, but let us know if they are bigger than lap size so we can ensure they have enough space on the punt to be comfortable too!

And most importantly we hope you have fun! Punting is the perfect way to explore our historic city and is also a lovely way to sit back and relax.
