Book a half boat (maximum 6 passengers) from a single household and save.

This is the most cost-effective punting tour in Cambridge for single households (in groups of up to 3 or up to 6) looking to join us on the river between the 29th of March and the 12th of April. If your group consists of multiple households please see the private tour page.

Half Boat - Single Household

For the period; 29th of March – 12th of April chauffeured tours are limited to either a maximum of 6 people from multiple households (‘rule of 6’) or 2 single households (max 12 pax in total). Therefore we have developed the ‘Half Boat’ booking option for single households of up to 3 or 6 people looking to share a boat with one other single household. (Your group will be separated from the other household by a perspex screen.)

Your ‘College Backs’ tour of Cambridge will last for approximately 50 minutes, there are multiple departures throughout the day at quarter past and quarter to the hour. Whilst gliding past 7 famous riverside colleges your chauffeur will provide a spoken tour focusing on the history of Cambridge and its University, particularly the riverside colleges you are passing. The tour will include fascinating historical facts and interesting anecdotes, stories of the illustrious college alumni and some hilarious student pranks too….!!

We use dynamic pricing; which means our prices vary throughout the day, week and season. This innovation enables us to offer our customers the best rates when the river is at its quietest – before 12pm and weekday evenings.

Know Before You Go

All tours comply with government legislation. Please ensure you are a maximum of 3or 6 people (depending on ticket booked) from a single household/bubble and are local to Cambridge/Cambridgeshire.

Tours are booked for a specific time. Late arrival will result in a missed tour.

You will receive a text message 5 minutes before your departure time – to aid social distancing please do not come to our check in until you have received this message.

You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks on board. Please ensure you take all rubbish with you.

Discounted Half Boat tour tickets are only available online are paid for in full at the time of booking.

Cambridge Punting

Due to COVID-19 and the governments roadmap to recovery, we have had to make changes to how we operate our Cambridge Punting tours. More information about our Covid-19 safety measures can be found here. Our half boat punting tours are the best value for single households of up to 6 passengers to enjoy the beauty of the River Cam and its Riverside Colleges. Sights including the ridge of Sighs and Kings College chapel really are best seen from a punt! By adding perspex screens and ensuring there are only 2 households on a boat we can still offer great value punting whilst complying with the current government guidance from Defra and British Marine.

Please note when purchasing a half boat tour ticket there will be one other household on the boat. You will be separated from them by a minimum head to head distance of more than 1 metre or a perspex screen.

If the screens or masks on the boat impede you from hearing the chauffeur in any way we also have a Free Audio Tour which can be downloaded and used during your tour. You are still welcome to bring food and drinks on board but we ask you to please take any rubbish with you and dispose of it safely.

A Few Changes

Due to social distancing guideline and minimising cross contamination we have made the following changes:

Life Jackets and Umbrellas are temporarily unavailable. You are very welcome to bring your own.
We are unable to allow any customers the opportunity to have a go at punting.
Our rugs covering the cushions have been replaced with a wipe clean material.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

Perspex screens on each boat separating different groups of customers and the chauffeur from the customers where the minimum 1m distance is not possible.
All staff to wear clear plastic visors whilst within 1m of customers where screens are not in place.
Boat sides and cushions cleaned between each tour.
Specific departure times booked in advance to assist social distancing meaning no queuing.
Tour available on an app with free download code (in the case that screens and masks make it difficult to hear the chauffeur).

Punting Tours in Cambridge

Our punting tours in Cambridge depart regularly throughout the day and last approximately 50 minutes. Trips are return, starting from and returning to our landing stage on the corner of Jesus Green. Whilst expertly punting you along the River Cam and down the college backs your chauffeur will provide a first-class guided tour.
