Cafe Foy:
Fancy some good food, good wine and a good conversation by the river? Cafe Foy has got you covered. Just an independent cafe bar created by two siblings, they wanted to bring a cafe bar that offered a multitude of things from locally roasted coffee to brunch dishes to cocktails. Cafe Foy deriving from the Magdalene motto ‘keep the faith’, the pair wanted to bring something that sounded like ‘joy’ to its customers.
Known for their famous toasties starting at £7.50, they offer a three-cheese toastie and the Reuben, which is based on the famous New York sandwich, with pastrami, salt beef, pickles, and cheese. With additional toasties changing weekly. Everything is cooked from scratch using ingredients from local suppliers like Radmore Farm Shop, and Stir Bakery.

2. Bread and Meat:
“An independent modern British eatery, specializing in gourmet sandwiches, poutine and our signature ‘bowls’ in the heart of historic Cambridge”. Located on Bridge Street ‘Bread and Meat’ was established in 2014 to deliver succulent, chin-dripping high-quality sandwiches that include roast pork, beef, chicken and veggie options. Although their options are relatively limited, what the company does offer is quality in its locally sourced produce, from 100% British meats along with homemade mayo and sauces. Their aim is to deliver the highest quality food that stands out from its competitors with the simplest ingredients.

3. Kiosk on the Green:
This particular business is located just a couple of minutes away from the departure point of our tours on Jesus Green, a perfect opportunity for you to indulge in a snack or two before or after you punt with us. Newly established in 2023 Kiosk on the Green can specifically be found next to the historic lock gate and the river Cam, with its local residents being Swans and Ducks. Whether you want to consume a freshly ground coffee, a sweet snack, or a delicious toastie this Kiosk will cover those needs equally while you soak in the beautiful green space surrounding it.

4. The Real Eating Company:
Established in 2004, the Real Eating Company is a family-owned independent cafe and coffee chain, and being a family-run business their priority is to accommodate customers, staff and suppliers and not shareholders. The aim of the Cafe is to deliver high-quality British casual dining in the South-East of England. Their ingredients are quality-assured from small producers, and grown sustainably within the local community. The seasonal toasties they offer include ‘Classic Ham & Cheddar’; ‘Chicken, Bacon, Cheddar & Spinach’; ‘Cheese & Tomato Melt’ and ‘Skipjack Tuna Melt.’

5. Urban Larder:
Last but not least, somewhat off the tourist beaten track lies Urban Larder located just North-East of Cambridge Train station on Mill Road. The larder, although small, offers a family-friendly environment that provides coffee and tea as well as delicious foods, including toasties. Their offerings include a good range of indulgent and healthy foods from locally sourced suppliers, such as their coffee, which is supplied by Butterworth and Son’s located in Bury St Edmunds. What is more exciting is they are currently under renovation, meaning what they offer in the future could exceed their former presence in Cambridge.
